IPA CIS Council Chairperson Valentina Matvienko receives the title of an honorary citizen of St. Petersburg

Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council became an honorary citizen of St. Petersburg. The award ceremony took place in the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg.

The ceremony was attended by Plenipotentiary Representative of the Russian Federation in the North-Western Federal District Nikolay Tsukanov, Governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavcheko, Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg Vyacheslav Makarov, members of the Assembly and the city government, honorary citizens of St. Petersburg. IPA CIS Secretary General Alexey Sergeev and plenipotentiary representatives the IPA CIS parliaments attended the ceremony.

Valentina Matvienko thanked the city administration for their trust and the chapters of the Siege survivors for promoting her candidature to this important capacity. "I will further do everything to support the development of St. Petersburg", said Valentina Matvienko.

Following the award ceremony, Valentina Matvienko took part in the wreath laying ceremony as a tribute to Peter the Great, the founder of St. Petersburg on his 314th birthday anniversary.
