IPA CIS Council members participate in IV Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments

The IV Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments “Greater Eurasia: Dialogue. Trust. Partnership” closed in the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Nur-Sultan. The event brought together parliamentary delegations from over 60 countries and representatives of 13 international and inter-parliamentary organizations.

The meeting was also attended by the IPA CIS Council members, including Speaker of the Milli Mejlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Oktay Asadov, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Andreychenko, Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Dastanbek Dzhumabekov, Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova Zinaida Greceanii, Speaker of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin, Speaker of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Shukurjon Zukhurov, Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Nurdinjon Ismoilov.

Speaker of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Nigmatulin opened the meeting, noting the importance of the event for the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko sent a message to the participants of the meeting, delivered by Secretary General – Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Dmitriy Kobitskiy.

According to Valentina Matvienko, the meeting is “a global platform for the exchange of best practices in legislation, coordination of activities in the key areas and consolidation of efforts to resolve the most pressing issues on the international agenda”. According to the IPA CIS Council Chairperson, such format as a meeting of heads of the highest legislative bodies of Eurasian countries has proved its relevance and relevance.

“The IPA CIS Council and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation wholly support the objectives and modes of interaction within the framework of the meeting of speakers of Eurasian countries’ parliaments. In order to ensure mutually beneficial cooperation across the Eurasia, we strive to establish a direct multilateral dialogue among the leaders of the legislative bodies of Eurasian states, as well as international, mainly inter-parliamentary organizations”, noted Valentina Matvienko in her message.

The event concluded with the adoption of the outcome document, which emphasizes the special role of the European and Asian legislative bodies in supporting the activities of regional integration associations and notes the need for coordination of parliamentary efforts in the issues related to migration, digitalization, disarmament, arms control and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, terrorism and other important areas.
