Meeting of Valentina Matvienko and Ogtay Asadov took place in Baku

As part of the visit to Baku, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko held a meeting with Member of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Milli Mejlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Ogtay Asadov. The parties discussed the status and prospects of bilateral cooperation on a wide range of issues.

The Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council noted the role of the leaders of the Azerbaijan Republic and the Russian Federation in the development of bilateral relations and proposed to elaborate the parliamentary mechanisms to facilitate implementation of the “roadmaps” for the Russian-Azerbaijani cooperation, which had been approved a year before by the Presidents of the two countries.

Valentina Matvienko and Ogtay Asadov discussed in detail the cooperation within international parliamentary forums, including the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, and touched upon the issues of improving the model law-making process and election monitoring.

The meeting was also attended by members of the Milli Mejlis of the Azerbaijan Republic and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, as well as Acting Secretary General – Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Dmitriy Kobitskiy and his deputy, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Milli Mejlis of the Azerbaijan Republic to the IPA CIS Aidyn Jafarov.
