Press-conference on the outcomes of the 45th Plenary Session of the IPA CIS

The press-conference was attended by the Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko, Speaker of the Council of Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovitch, Speaker of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Shukurjon Zukhurov, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova Vladimir Vityuk, Deputy Speaker of Mili Majilis of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Regional Affairs, Deputy Head of the delegation of Mili Majilis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Arif Ragimzade, Chairman of the Committee of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots Leonid Kalashnikov, and Plenipotentiary Representative of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Hayk Chilingaryan.

The participants summarized work of the autumn session of the IPA CIS and agreed that the Assembly was an attractive platform for exchanges among MPs.

Valentina Matvienko noted that the plenary session was attended by the Heads of parliamentary assemblies of the Mediterranean and the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation. The Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council also stressed the interest of the parliamentary organizations in cooperation with the CIS countries. “Our platform proved relevant not only at the level of the member nations, but also for interaction and cooperation with other international parliamentary organizations”, said Valentina Matvienko.

She underlined that in 2017 the IPA CIS would have a rich agenda including a series of events dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the organization. “25 years is a solid age, the Assembly is gaining credibility, capacity and recognition”, added Valentina Matvienko.

According to her, over these 25 years the IPA CIS has built a legal framework for development and enhancement of cooperation in various spheres.
