Valentina Matvienko:

According to Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko, cooperation within the Commonwealth of Independent States prevented the post-Soviet states from “scattering to the corners” and ensured their deep integration.,.

“In my opinion, the Commonwealth of Independent States did three important things. First of all, we didn`t lock ourselves in our "national apartments" and didn`t scatter to the corners. Secondly, the Commonwealth of Independent States provided mechanisms and institutions aimed at developing and enhancing cooperation between our countries in economic, political, military, humanitarian and other areas”, noted Valentina Matvienko during the press-conference on the results of the 45th Plenary session of the IPA CIS which took place in St. Petersburg on Friday.

“The third and extremely important point: the CIS provided conditions for a deeper integration across the post-Soviet space through such structures as the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, the Union State of Russia and Belarus, Eurasian Economic Union, CSTO and other institutions. The common space we preserved boded well for the current result”, added Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council.
