Tavricheskiy Palace to become the center of world parliamentarism

St. Petersburg will welcome the 137th IPU Assembly in autumn 2017. This decision was taken by the IPU Governing Council today in Geneva during the last day of deliberations of 135th IPU Assembly.

As a result of a personal vote requested by the Ukrainian delegation in line with the rules of procedure, the venue of the regular session was overwhelmingly supported by 138 votes in favour against 19 votes against.

After the members of the IPU Governing Council adopted this decision, Head of the Russian Delegation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko took the floor to address the Council. She noted that St. Petersburg had an extensive record in hosting international events, with all the amenities to host this important gathering with the best possible quality.

The parliamentarians also saw a video clip about St. Petersburg which particularly highlighted the Tavricheskiy Palace, the IPA CIS headquarters, which will welcomed the key events of the future IPU session.

At the inaugural signing ceremony, IPA CIS Chairperson Valentina Matvienko and IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong authorized the document with their personal signatures.
