The IPA CIS Council session was held in the Tavricheskiy Palace

The headquarters of the IPA CIS held the session of the IPA CIS Council. 

Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, the Speaker of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko opened the meeting. The Speaker congratulated the new colleagues who have been elected since the previous session.

Valentina Matvienko noted that ‘the interparliamentarian cooperation is the basis for the concerted policy’.

Valentina Matvienko also informed that last week Chairman of the Senate of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokaev had offered to accept his statement concerning the recent acts of terrorism in different countries. The Speaker supported this initiative.

The members of the Council discussed the draft of the Perspective Plan of model law-making for 2016-2020, the IPA CIS status in the Interparliamentary Union, the monitoring of the presidential election in Kazakhstan, presidential election in Belarus, parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan and Tajikistan by the team of the IPA CIS international observers.

The participants also summed up the outcomes of the series of events devoted to the 70th anniversary of the victory on the Great Patriotic War and the outcomes of the Eurasian Women’s Forum. Another issue for discussion was Chingiz Aitmatov Award by the IPA CIS.
