Upper Chamber of the Russian Parliament recalls Eurasian Women’s Forum

Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly Valentina Matvienko held a session with women-led NGOs on 4 December.

Vice-Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Galina Karelova took part in the meeting. The session brought together Federation Council members and women leaders of Russian NGOs.

Valentina Matvienko reported on the results and statistics of the Forum calling it a landmark event to encourage the empowerment of women.

“The Forum largely highlighted the most relevant issues and challenges of the humanity and set an over-arching goal to consolidate women communities”, said V. Matvienko.

She stressed the role of women organizations in addressing various social issues of today.

Galina Karelova mentioned the current low momentum in developing capacities of women NGOs. She also echoed that the Forum also offered a set of interesting practical ideas and views to develop the legislation. She underlined that such a feedback is crucial for the success of law-making efforts in the sphere.
