Experts Considered Realities and Prospects of Digitalisation of Healthcare in Commonwealth Countries

On 28 March, a meeting of the IPA CIS Expert Advisory Board on Public Health was held. The event was chaired by Dean of Faculty of Dental Medicine and Medical Technologies of St. Petersburg State University, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Yuriy Shcherbuk.

The topic of the meeting was the discussion of the Digital interstate technology platform as a tool for the development of national health care standards and evidence bases for bioethics and biosafety in the CIS countries.

The event was attended by MPs, representatives of the relevant ministries and departments of the CIS countries, World Health Organisations, CIS Executive Committee, academies of sciences and universities of the CIS countries, leaders of patient and professional non-profit organisation, as well as the international organisation “Eurasian Cooperation on Clinical Guidelines and Development of National Health”.

Secretary General of the Council of the IPA CIS Dmitriy Kobitskiy made a welcoming speech and noted that digital technologies are becoming an important resource for the provision of healthcare services and protection of public health.

Special Representative of the Director of the WHO Regional Office for Europe in Russian Federation Bahtygul Karriyeva on behalf of herself and of Regional Director Hans Kluge conveyed words of condolence and support to the Government, citizens affected by the terrorist attack.

Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg Oleg Ergashev said in his welcoming speech that the City Government pays great attention to the process of informatization of the healthcare system.

Advisor of the Department for Humanitarian Cooperation, General Political and Social Problems of the CIS Executive Committee Elena Shamal spoke about the realities and prospects of e-health for practical application on the Commonwealth platform.

The members of the Advisory Board decided to promote the creation of conditions for interstate cooperation of CIS countries in the field of healthcare digitalisation.

The participants of the meeting supported the initiative to develop the concept of the Global Medical Scientific Educational Research Platform. The next meeting of the Board is scheduled for October-November 2024.
