IPA CIS Council Secretary General Held a Number of Meetings on the Margins of World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Vienna

The Fifth World Conference of the Speakers of Parliament, which opened today in Vienna, is attended by the IPA CIS delegation comprising Chair of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Science and Education Lilia Gumerova and Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy.

Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko delivered a message at the meeting devoted to global efforts in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy met with Director of the Division for Treaty Affairs of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime John Brandolino. The parties discussed the prospects of cooperation, increased participation of experts in the development of the modal laws in the field of security and agreed to prepare a memorandum on cooperation.

Dmitriy Kobitskiy also held a meeting with Secretary General of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Roberto Montella. The parties commended the current level of cooperation and agreed to support it, including through the joint organization of the conference on countering international terrorism in 2023. The Secretaries General also discussed the approximation of documents regulating the procedure of elections’ monitoring.

Dmitriy Kobitskiy also met with Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Despina Chatzivassiliou-Tsovilis. The parties agreed to continue cooperation on the issues of common interest and discuss the prospect of the joint activities in the light of the 25th anniversary of cooperation between the two organizations in 2022.
