UN Experts Discussed Best Practices and Challenges of Anti-Corruption Efforts

On 7 November 2022, the second part of the resumed thirteenth session of the Implementation Review Group of the United Nations Convention against Corruption kicked off in Vienna.

The event was organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

On behalf of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat, Head of the Department for International Relations, Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Political Affairs and International Cooperation Maximillian Selyutin and Head of the Model Law-Making Support Department Sergey Belousov attended the event via videoconferencing as observers.

The UNODC Secretariat presented an overview of the Review Mechanism of Convention Implementation. A note on the Performance of the Mechanism for the Review of Implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption was prepared and considered by the Implementation Review Group at its session held from 13 to 17 June 2022.

The participants made reports on the progress made, good practices and challenges identified under the Mechanism for the Review of Implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

In the political declaration “Our Common Commitment to Effectively Addressing Challenges and Implementing Measures to Prevent and Combat Corruption and Strengthen International Cooperation”, adopted by the General Assembly at the special session against corruption held in 2021, Member States, in particular, endorsed the results of the Implementation Review Mechanism, which helps participants fully comply with their commitments under the Convention.

As a result of the deliberations, the Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption decided to extend the mandate of the Review Mechanism for three years until June 2024.

The work of the group and the discussion of technical issues of engagement among the States Parties to the Convention will continue until 11 November 2022.
