Valentina Matvienko: We Feel Inextricable Connection with Generation of War Heroes

The countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States are celebrating the 79^th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko sent congratulations on Victory Day.

“Decades have passed, but the date of 9 May remains for all of us a symbol of national unity, military glory and valor. Its importance has not decreased over the years. We will remember the liberating heroes who crushed fascism and defended their homeland. On this day, bowing our heads before the feat of the fallen, laying flowers at obelisks and memorials, standing in columns of the “Immortal Regiment”, we feel an inextricable connection with the generation of heroes. Time will not be able to erase the sacred memory of their courage, strength of spirit and fortitude in the hardest trials of the war years”, – the Speaker of the Federation Council said.

Valentina Matvienko noted that this holiday is forever inscribed in the fate of every family, unites with solemn joy, pride for their Fatherland and sorrow for the dead.

”Low bow to all those who brought the Great Victory closer, fought at the front, in partisan detachments, rescued the wounded, worked selflessly in the rear”, – the congratulatory speech says.
