CIS Experts Discussed Model Law on Development and Protection of Mountainous Areas

The information on the development of the IPA CIS draft Model Law on Development and Protection of Mountainous Areas was presented at the 9th International Symposium “Mountainous Areas: Priority Directions of Development”, which took place in Vladikavkaz (the Russian Federation).

The conference brought together experts on mountainous areas from the Republic of Armenia, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the representatives of international organizations.

The round table “Governmental Support Policy of Mountainous Areas and its Legislative Framework on Example of the IPA CIS Model Law on Development and Protection of Mountainous Areas” held within the conference program drew special attention of the participants. Addressing the round table, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Member of the National Academy of Science of the Kyrgyz Republic Asylbek Aidaraliev stressed the significance and relevance of the development of the Model Law and shared the experience of the Kyrgyz Republic on state mountainous policy and adoption of the Mountainous Law and the Central Asia Mountain Charter.

The Secretariat of the IPA CIS Council was represented by Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Agrarian Policy, Natural Resources and Ecology Natalia Amburtseva. She told about the legislative work of the IPA CIS, and particularly about the draft Model Law on Development and Protection of Mountainous Areas. During the following discussion a number of recommendations to the draft were proposed.

The 9th International Symposium “Mountainous Areas: Priority Directions of Development” is held on 4 – 7 December 2019 in North-Caucasian Mining and Metallurgical Institute. The event is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the idea of sustainable development of mountainous areas. The conference is co-organized by the government of the North Osetia – Alania, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the North-Caucasian Mining and Metallurgical Institute, the International Innovation Scientific-Technological Centre “Sustainable Development of Mountain Territories” and others.
