Ion Lipciu Takes Part in Meeting of Mayor of Chisinau and Governor of St. Petersburg

The bilateral meeting of Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov and Mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban took place in Smolny. Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova Ion Lipciu took part in the meeting.

The parties discussed a number of topics concerning the cooperation between the Administration of St. Petersburg and the Municipal Council of Chisinau in various fields. Ion Ceban told that on 8 September 2020 the authorities of the Republic of Moldova were planning to inaugurate a Chisinau branch of the Museum of the Defense and Siege of Leningrad. Mayor of Chisinau handed over a book published by Ion Lipciu that features the names of the citizens of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic killed during the siege of Leningrad.

Alexander Beglov informed on the decision of the Government of St. Petersburg to send a group of specialists to Chisinau to design parks and restore memorials. St. Petersburg is also committed to the development of cooperation in the economic sphere: St. Petersburg companies are ready to take on lease electrical networks of Chisinau for the subsequent reconstruction and installation of energy-efficient equipment. Alexander Beglov also highlighted that St. Petersburg would be interested in expanding import of agricultural products from the Republic of Moldova.

Ion Ceban welcomed the cooperation between the two cities and proposed to sign an agreement on developing cooperation in several areas.
