Meeting of Valentina Matvienko and Sadyr Japarov Took Place

On 8 May, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko met with President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov. The parties discussed the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation and preparation for joint projects, in particular, for the autumn session of the Assembly in the Kyrgyz Republic. The meeting was held as part of the official visit of the head of Kyrgyzstan to participate in events dedicated to the 78th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
During the meeting, Valentina Matvienko emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of the Great Patriotic War, the inadmissibility of attempts to rewrite history, diminishment the feat of the winner – the Soviet people. “Last year, the Council of the CIS Heads of State, at the initiative of the Interparliamentary Assembly, declared 2025 the Year of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War – the Year of Peace and Unity in the Fight Against Nazism in the CIS,” said the Speaker of the upper house of the Russian Parliament.
She expressed gratitude to her Kyrgyz colleagues for supporting joint projects in the field of patriotic education aimed at preserving the common history and protecting traditional values, the press service of the Federation Council reports.
Sadyr Japarov called Russia one of the main partners and allies of Kyrgyzstan, with which strategic cooperation had been developed and noted the high level of parliamentary events, including at the platforms of the IPA CIS, the CSTO PA, and other international organizations.
The parties touched upon the organization of the retreat session of the IPA CIS in the Kyrgyz Republic in 2023, the development of multilateral cooperation within the EAEU, the CSTO, the SCO, and the strengthening of trade and economic relations, the development of humanitarian contacts, including the International Cultural and Educational Forum “Children of the Commonwealth”.
