Bilateral Meetings Held at Doha Meeting of Parliamentary Assemblies

Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy held bilateral meetings with representatives of partner organizations in Doha, where the Third Counter-Terrorism Coordination Meeting of Parliamentary Assemblies is taking place.

During the talk with Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) Asaf Hajiyev, the parties discussed the issues of cooperation between organizations . They stressed their interest in the development of the dialogue and multi-dimensional cooperation.

The Head of the Secretariat of the IPA CIS Council also discussed the perspectives of cooperation on counter-terrorism issues with Deputy Chair of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE PA), Chair of the Coordination Mechanism for Parliamentary Assemblies on Counter-Terrorism Reinhold Lopatka. The conversation touched upon the common areas and prospects for joint work in countering terrorism and extremism.

Today Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council met with Deputy Director of the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre, Chief of Special Projects and Innovation Branch of the UNOCT Mauro Miedico. The parties highly appreciated the level of cooperation between the UNOCT and the IPA CIS. Dmitriy Kobitskiy informed Mauro Miedico about the preparation of a conference dedicated to countering international terrorism to be held on 13-14 April 2023 at the IPA CIS headquarters in St. Petersburg, and invited him to participate in the event.

Mauro Miedico thanked the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly for its active participation in the work of the Coordination Mechanism for Parliamentary Assemblies on Counter-Terrorism.

The parties expressed hope for the continued cooperation.

Earlier Dmitriy Kobitskiy met with Secretary General of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) Mohammad Reza Majidi.

The Third Counter-Terrorism Coordination Meeting of Parliamentary Assemblies takes place in the capital of the State of Qatar on 30-31 January. Representatives of the parliamentary organizations discuss regional trends and ongoing measures to counter terrorism and prevent extremism, as well as determine priorities and geography for potential joint initiatives in these areas for the coming year. Addressing the session “Priorities and Future Efforts”, the Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council spoke about the counter-terrorism documents currently being prepared in the Assembly and expressed readiness to share experience and best practices with all interested parties.
