Dmitriy Kobitskiy Met with Secretary General of Asian Parliamentary Assembly Mohammad Reza Majidi

Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy held a meeting with Secretary General of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) Mohammad Reza Majidi. The meeting took place on the margins of the Third Counter-Terrorism Coordination Meeting of Parliamentary Assemblies, taking place in Qatar.

During the conversation Dmitriy Kobitskiy drew attention to the fact that many issues of the current agenda are common to both organizations.

The Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council noted that the main task of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly was to develop model laws and recommendations in order to harmonize and improve national legislation and stressed that in case of interest the IPA CIS was ready to share this experience with the APA parliamentarians.

He also spoke about important congress events held by the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly. Among them, the Secretary General mentioned the conference dedicated to countering international terrorism to be held on 13-14 April 2023 at the headquarters of the IPA CIS, as well as the international forum “St. Petersburg – the Parliamentary Capital of the Commonwealth” dedicated to the 320th anniversary of the city and scheduled for 18-19 May this year. Dmitriy Kobitskiy invited the APA parliamentarians to take part in the IPA CIS events.

Today the Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council gave an interview to the Qatari media. Answering journalists’ questions, Dmitriy Kobitskiy spoke about the work undertaken by the organization to counter terrorism, and outlined the prospects for strengthening parliamentary cooperation in this area, including within the framework of the activities of the Program Office of the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism in Doha.

The Third Counter-Terrorism Coordination Meeting of Parliamentary Assemblies takes place in the capital of the State of Qatar on 30-31 January. Representatives of the parliamentary organizations discuss regional trends and ongoing measures to counter terrorism and prevent extremism, as well as determine priorities and geography of potential joint initiatives in these areas for the coming year.
