Chairperson of IPA CIS Council Met With President of PACE at Fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament

On 7 September 2021, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko held a meeting with President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Rik Daems in Vienna. The meeting took place on the margins of the Fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments.

The parties discussed topical international issues and touched upon the activities of the Council of Europe.

During the conversation, Valentina Matvienko noted that the World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments provided an opportunity to talk about the issues of concern. She thanked the PACE President for openness to dialogue, constructive approach to cooperation with the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the IPA CIS.

According to the press service of the Federation Council, Rik Daems noted the importance of the dialogue, which will continue at the European Conference of Speakers of Parliaments on 21-22 October 2021 in Athens.

On the same day, the Chairperson of the Federation Council held meetings with the Heads of the chambers of the Austrian Parliament – President of the Federal Council Peter Raggl and President of the National Council Wolfgang Sobotka.

During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of developing Russian – Austrian parliamentary relations, including through parliamentary friendship groups and expressed interest in exchanging views on a broad European and international agenda.

Valentina Matvienko invited Austrian colleagues to take an active part in the upcoming Eurasian Women’s Forum in October 2021 in St. Petersburg and the International Conference on Intercultural and Interreligious Dialogue in 2022.
