Tajik MPs Adopted Law on Amnesty

On 6 September 2021, a meeting of the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan was held under the chairmanship of Speaker of the chamber Mahmadtoir Zoir Zokirzoda. During the event, the MPs discussed and adopted the draft Law on Amnesty.

The draft was presented to parliament by President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon as a humanitarian initiative on the 30th anniversary of state independence.

The amnesty will affect 16 000 people. 10 700 will be released from criminal liability and serving the remainder of their sentence. At the same time, persons who have committed particularly serious aggravated crimes, as well as those who were granted amnesty in 2019 and committed an intentional crime again, are not subject to release.
