Dunyagozel Gulmanova Elected Speaker of Majlisi of Turkmenistan

On 6 April, all 125 MPs unanimously voted for her candidacy at the first session of the seventh convocation of Majlisi of Turkmenistan. The Speaker of Parliament was elected by secret ballot.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedow attended the meeting and signed the Law of Turkmenistan on the election of Dunyagozel Gulmanova as Speaker of the Parliament.

Dunyagozel Gulmanova was born on 14 January 1989 in Ashgabat. Since 2012 she got a law degree and worked in the Ministry of Justice of Turkmenistan. Since 2021 she served as Deputy Speaker and then Chair of the Committee for the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms of the Khalk Maslakhaty Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan.

In the elections she ran for the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan.

The Majlisi elections were held on 26 March, and, according to the Central Election Commission of Turkmenistan, 91.12% of the electorate voted.

Representatives from the IPA CIS monitored the election campaign in Turkmenistan as part of the CIS Observer Mission.
