Senators of Uzbekistan Adopt Law on Protection of Children and Women from Violence

The thirty-ninth plenary session of the Oliy Majlis Senate of the Republic of Uzbekistan took place today. Parliamentarians have discussed and approved a law which increases responsibility for offences against women and children.

The law defines criminal and administrative measures and responsibility for domestic violence against a spouse, ex-wife or ex-husband or partner, the press service of the Oliy Majlis Senate reports. Punishments for those who committed sexual violence were tightened as well.

Also parliamentarians considered and approved a number of other documents: a draft law on the ratification of the Treaty between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan on the transfer of sentenced persons for serving of a sentence in their country and the provisions of laws increasing penalties for corruption offences and non-compliance with legitimate demands of the Border Guard troops.
