Republic of Belarus Celebrates Independence Day

On 3 July, the Republic of Belarus celebrates Independence Day, one of the country’s principal national holidays. The date commemorates the liberation of Minsk from Nazi occupation in 1944.

The holiday symbolizes the courage and resilience of the Belarusian people, as well as the country’s peace and independence. It is an occasion to honour the sacrifices of frontline soldiers, partisans, members of the underground resistance, home front workers and all those who contributed to the liberation of Belarus.

Concerts, exhibitions, public celebrations and other festive events will take place across the country, culminating in a fireworks display in Minsk.

On the eve of Belarus’s Independence Day, a ceremonial gathering of Armed Forces veterans of Belarusian origin and officers undergoing training at St. Petersburg’s military educational institutions was held.

The event was initiated by Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Sergey Khomenko with the support of the Suvorov Charitable Foundation.

Participants emphasized the importance of preserving continuity between generations, maintaining the traditions of military service, and safeguarding the unity of the officer corps, founded on a shared historical memory.
