Deputy Chair of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Alexey Gordeev and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Russian Federation Rahman Mustafayev met in Moscow.
Alexey Gordeyev noted that now the interaction of Azerbaijani and Russian parliamentarians takes place on three levels - within the framework of the Inter-parliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Inter-chamber Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Working Group for the Azerbaijani-Russian InterparliamentaryR.
The Deputy Chair also noted the active cooperation of MP’s of the two countries on international platforms — the IPA CIS, the Interparliamentary Union and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly.
“Relations between Russia and Azerbaijan are steadily developing in line with strategic partnership and alliance. They are based on strong traditions of mutual respect and good neighborhood,” - said the Deputy Chair of the State Duma.
According to him, this year interstate contacts are characterized by high intensity at all levels. In August, the first state visit of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to Azerbaijan in bilateral relations took place, which gave an additional impetus to joint work. A number of important agreements have been reached, including the establishment of a Russian-Azerbaijani university in Baku with the participation of Saint Petersburg State University.
The Ambassador noted the high intensity of bilateral contacts and stressed that today the countries are reaching a new level of mutually beneficial cooperation.
“Azerbaijan adheres to an independent foreign policy. Our independence also implies cooperation with Russia,” - said Rahman Mustafayev.
Separately, the parties discussed strengthening parliamentary contacts in the field of ecology, in particular, cooperation on the problem of shallowing the Caspian Sea and the conservation of its biological resources. At the suggestion of Alexey Gordeev, a working group on this issue will be formed within the framework of Inter-chamber Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Representatives of the academic community of Azerbaijan and the Russian Academy of Sciences will be invited to participate in this work.
