Sahiba Gafarova Draws Outcomes of Spring Session of Azerbaijan Parliament

Speaker of the Milli Mejlis told about the reforms taking place in the Parliament and emphasized that the presence of the opposition representatives at the high-ranking positions and in the committees of the Milli Mejlis as part of the fundamental reforms initiated by the President was a key component in the new political system of the country.

Sahiba Gafarova noted the optimization of the Parliament’s Staff and the establishment of a new Department of Executive Bodies Relations, which aims to closely cooperate with executive authorities. The Speaker expressed confidence that the reforms would allow to raise the efficiency of the legislative body.

Another meeting, which took place on the eve of the 97th anniversary of the birth of the leader of Azerbaijan people Heydar Aliev, honored his service to the state.

At its final spring session, the Parliament of the Azerbaijan Republic adopted a number of laws, including those related to social protection of citizens and respect for human rights of persons with disabilities.

According to the Milli Mejlis press service, the changes serve humanitarian goals and increase access to state aid for the poor. The proposed changes will expand the targeted state social support programs and self-employment in the upcoming years.

The MPs also discussed measures to stop the spread of the coronavirus infection and approved the fines for violating the requirements for the use of personal protective equipment and conniving at such violations by officials.
