Senate of Parliament of Republic of Kazakhstan Adopted Law to Reduce Registration Barrier for Formation of Political Parties

On 21 May 2020, the meeting of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan presided by its Speaker Maulen Ashimbayev, approved the Constitutional Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan amending the Constitutional Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Elections in the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Law amending the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Political Parties.

Maulen Ashimbayev noted the importance of the adopted laws in terms of democratization and straightening the social and political system of Kazakhstan.

The main objectives of the documents are the reduction of the registration barrier for the formation of the political parties and the introduction of a quota of at least 30% for persons under the age of 29 and women of the total number of persons included in the list for the registration of candidates for MPs from one political party.

In addition, during the meeting, the Law on Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Issues of Restricted Zones and Restricted Districts at Arsenals, Bases and Warehouses of the Armed Forces, Other Troops and Military Formations and Protection of Population in Case of Possible Emergency Related to Storage of Ammunition was considered and adopted.

Furthermore, the members of the Senate ratified the Agreement on the Mechanism for the Traceability of Goods Imported into the Customs Territory of the Eurasian Economic Union.
