Valentina Matvienko and Maulen Ashimbaev Met in Nur-Sultan

On 27 June 2021, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko and Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbayev held a meeting in Nur-Sultan.

Valentina Matvienko noted that the visit of the Federation Council delegation to Kazakhstan was the first foreign trip of the senators after a long break associated with the COVID-19 pandemic and recalled the significance of the intensification of the inter-parliamentary dialogue.

The speakers discussed the development of interaction through the IPA CIS. They also noted the relevance of interregional and cross-border cooperation, the holding of the Interregional Cooperation Forum between the two countries, as well as the reinforcement of exchanges between young parliamentarians. They also touched upon the issues of cooperation in the field of environmental protection and rational use of natural resources, joint fight against COVID-19 and interaction in the field of vaccination, building up cultural and humanitarian ties.

Maulen Ashimbaev thanked the Russian party for the assistance in the fight against COVID-19. He noted the strategic and traditionally friendly nature of bilateral relations in various fields. He spoke about the development and support of the Russian language in Kazakhstan as a language of interethnic communication. He also suggested that the senators of the two countries cooperate more actively on the legislative support of Russian-Kazakh interaction in the agricultural industry, science, and ecology.

The Head of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan invited Russian senators to take part in the seventh Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions to be held the following fall in Nur-Sultan.

The speakers also congratulated each other on the upcoming International Day of Parliamentarism.
