More than 300 million people across the globe are celebrating Nowruz

Nowruz is a public holiday celebrated on Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.

It has been celebrated for over 3,000 years in the Balkans, the Black Sea Basin, the Caucasus, Central Asia, and Western Asia. It marks the first day of the new year. The holiday has various names depending on the country, but in every language its name means the same – ‘the new day’.

In 2009, Nowruz was officially registered on the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and is now one of the 76 assets of intangible heritage from all over the world.

In 2010, the 64th session of the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution that declared 21 March the International Nowruz Day.
