The Republic of Azerbaijan celebrates Constitution Day

Today the Republic of Azerbaijan celebrates its national holiday Constitution Day.

This is the 4th Constitution that was adopted in Azerbaijan in 1995.

Mainly the history of constitutional building of the country falls on the Soviet period.

Following the independence the new Constitution was in great demand. The special commission under the guidance of President of Azerbaijan Gheidar Aliev was assigned to work out a new constitution. It was adopted later on the referendum on 12 November 1995.

The Constitution comprises 5 sections, 12 chapters and 158 articles.
