Aydin Jafarov Spoke at Opening of Forum on Role of Women Parliamentarians in Prevention of Violent

A High–Level Forum on the Role of Central Asian States’ Women Parliamentarians in the Implementation of the PCVE National Action Plans kicked off today in Istanbul (Republic of Türkiye). The CIS Interparliamentary Assembly was represented at the event by Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Aydin Jafarov.

Aydin Jafarov noted that international terrorism and violent extremism as a major security challenge and stressed the special role of women parliamentarians in the legislative activities of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly. He said that the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly had become a sought-after platform for discussing the role and opportunities for women in the global challenges of the 21st century noting, including within the framework of the traditional parliamentary conference on countering international terrorism and the Eurasian Women’s Forum.

The high-level Forum, which takes place on 22-23 June 2022, is organized by the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre and focuses on discussing gender aspects of the UN’s work on countering terrorism and preventing violent extremism, development of relevant legal frameworks and regional strategies, gender issues of work with returnees, participation of women leaders and women parliamentarians in efforts to prevent violent extremism etc.
