CIS Human Rights Commission Establishment in Progress

On 26 July 2021, the meeting of the expert group on the establishment of the Human Rights Commission of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held via videoconferencing. During the meeting, the participants considered the draft Provisions of the Commission.

Representatives of the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan and the CIS Executive Committee reviewed the draft revised Regulations on the Human Rights Commission of the Commonwealth of Independent States prepared by the Russian party.

In addition, the meeting participants discussed the draft Decisions of the Council of CIS Heads of State and the Protocol on Amendments to the Convention of the Commonwealth of Independent States on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms of 26 May 1995.

According to the press service of the CIS Executive Committee, the members of the expert group decided to continue the joint activities of the CIS Member Nations to promote human rights and fundamental freedoms and scheduled a regular meeting for 10 September 2021 at the CIS Executive Committee (Minsk, Republic of Belarus).
