CIS MPs Took Part in Plenary Session of AIPA General Assembly

The plenary session of the 42nd General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) took place today. The event was held via videoconferencing and hosted by the Legislative Council of Brunei Darussalam, which presides over the organization this year. The discussion was focused on the development of parliamentary cooperation in the field of digital technologies integration.
The meeting was attended by Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko, member of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives on International Affairs, Deputy Head of the delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus to maintain contacts with the AIPA Sergey Syrankov and the delegation of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation headed by the Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev.
Vladimir Andreichenko said that Belarus had certain experience and best practices in the field of creating common digital ecosystems and a “digital good-neighborhood belt”. In this regard, he proposed holding an ASEAN-Belarus inter-parliamentary forum in Minsk, which could result in the signing of the Joint Declaration on International Information Ecosystems and the Creation of a “Digital Good-Neighborhood Belt”.
Vladimir Andreichenko also stressed that work on information and legal basis for the digital development of society, including for the Member Nations of the Eurasian Economic Union, was also carried out in the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.
In his turn, Konstantin Kosachev highlighted that the development of relations with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations was among the priorities of Russia’s foreign policy in Asia. He also informed parliamentarians about the national project “Digital Economy of the Russian Federation” and drew attention to Russia’s readiness to share experience in the digital transformation, including the experience of implementing digital solutions tested within the EAEU, including the “Travel Without COVID-19” mobile application and the “Work Without Borders” unified search system.
According to the press service of the Federation Council, Konstantin Kosachev also invited representatives of the ASEAN countries to actively participate in the Third Eurasian Women’s Forum, as well as in the International Conference on Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue to be held on 16-18 May 2022 in St. Petersburg.
