Council of CIS Foreign Ministers Held Meeting Under Chairmanship of Uzbekistan

On 10 December, a meeting of the Council of the CIS Foreign Ministers under the chairmanship of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held via videoconferencing.

The heads of foreign policy agencies of the CIS Member Nations exchanged views on topical issues of the international agenda and interaction within the Commonwealth. The meeting participants also discussed the difficult epidemiological situation and interaction in the fight against the pandemic, as well as overcoming the negative economic and humanitarian consequences for the CIS.

According to the press service of the CIS Executive Committee, the foreign ministers approved a number of documents, including the texts of two draft statements – on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations and on cooperation in the field of international information security, two concepts – on the further development of the CIS and on military cooperation, as well as a draft cooperation program aimed at straightening frontier security at external borders. The Plan of Multi-Level Consultations Among Foreign Ministries Within the Framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States for 2021 was also approved.

In addition, documents on the establishment of basic organizations for the training of scientific personnel in physics and technical physics, as well as training of the members of the prosecution service were also approved.

The next meeting of the Council of the CIS Foreign Ministers was scheduled for 2 April 2021.
