Dmitriy Kobitskiy: IPA CIS Highly Appreciates Dynamic Development of Relations with UN Office of Counter-Terrorism

Today, the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) inaugurates its program office in the State of Qatar. Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy sent a video message to the participants and guests of the opening ceremony of the office in Doha.

Dmitriy Kobitskiy recalled that one of the important areas of the IPA CIS activity was the improvement and convergence of the legislative systems of the CIS Member Nations, particularly, in the field of countering terrorism. Among the documents developed and adopted by the Assembly in this area, there are Model Laws on Countering Terrorism, on Countering the Activities of Organizations and Persons Planning Terrorist Acts in Other States, on Countering the Financing of Terrorism, the Recommendations on Improving the Legislation of the CIS Member Nations in the Field of Countering Technological Terrorism, etc.

The Secretary General is confident that countering terrorism and extremism is impossible without strengthening international institutions and developing their interaction. “We highly appreciate the dynamic and comprehensive development of relations with our partner organizations – not only parliamentary but also sectoral ones, including the UN agencies, such as the UN Office Counter-Terrorism, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, the Department of Economic and Social Affairs. These relations are based, first of all, on long-standing traditions of mutual respect and commitment to find joint decisions on the most important issues of the modern agenda”, said Dmitriy Kobitskiy.

The opening ceremony was attended by Speaker of the Shura Council of the State of Qatar Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud, Deputy Prime Minister of the State of Qatar, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Head of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism Vladimir Voronkov, Deputy Director of the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre, Chief of Special Projects and Innovation Branch of the UNOCT Mauro Miedico, as well as the representatives of major international organizations.
