Dmitriy Kobitskiy: We Need Additional Impetus for Developing Economic Partnership in Greater Eurasia

Today, the autumn session of the International Forum “Eurasian Economic Perspective” kicked off in the Tavricheskiy Palace. The event was co-organized by the St. Petersburg State University of Economics, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, the Committee on External Relations of St. Petersburg and the Eurasian University Association.

Rector of St. Petersburg State University of Economics, Chairman of the IPA CIS Expert Advisory Board on Economy Igor Maksimtsev opened the event and noted the challenges faced by the scientific community due to the COVID-19 pandemic: closed borders and enhancing sanitary and epidemiological measures caused annulation of many in person events and consultations. He proposed to analyze the current situation and its impact on economic processes during the discussion.

Igor Maksimtsev also delivered a welcoming speech by IPA CIS Council Secretary General Dmitriy Kobitskiy that focused on the need to obtain new ideas, proposals and projects, that would give an additional impetus to the economic partnership and integration processes in the Commonwealth and Greater Eurasia in general.

Governor of St. Petersburg Aleksandr Beglov and Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Mikhail Myasnikovich also sent their greetings to the Forum participants.

The opening ceremony was followed by the online roundtables on the subjects “Development of the Economic Integration Cooperation on Post-Soviet Space Until 2030 Within New Pandemic Dimension”, “Greater Eurasia: Opportunities for Creating Integration Outline” and “Integration Aspects of the EAEU and CIS Development in the Legal Area: Modern Challenges and Trends”.

The Forum brings together the MPs from the CIS and EAEU Member Nations, representatives of the IPA CIS, the Eurasian Economic Commission, the CIS Executive Committee, rectors of the leading universities of the Eurasian University Association, experts, public figures and representatives of the business community. The event aims at the development of the parliamentary, economic, social, educational and other dimensions of cooperation within the framework of the Eurasian economic integration.
