IPA CIS and WHO Regional Office for Europe to Hold Joint Conference on Public Health in St. Petersburg

On 2 June 2021, Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy met with Regional Director for Europe of the World Health Organization Hans Kluge at the Tavricheskiy Palace – the IPA CIS headquarters.

The parties highly appreciated the results of long-term cooperation and discussed the preparations for the International Conference on Universal Health Coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals, which the IPA CIS and the WHO Regional Office for Europe intend to hold in St. Petersburg in November 2021 as part of the autumn session of the IPA CIS.

Dmitriy Kobitskiy noted the importance of the upcoming event and said that during the pandemic, health issues not only become particularly important, but also often stand above economic and political interests.

Hans Kluge recalled that WHO has declared 2021 the International Year of Health and Care Workers in recognition of their contribution to the fight against COVID-19. He also emphasized the importance of making health organizations responsive to citizens' needs. In this regard, Hans Kluge attached great importance to parliamentary and inter-parliamentary interaction.
