Meeting of CIS Council of the Heads of Financial Intelligence Held Online

On 8 July 2020, the 15th meeting of the CIS Council of the Heads of Financial Intelligence was held via videoconferencing.

The Council members discussed the activities of the working groups on assessment of risks and threats in the field of prevention of money laundering and financing of terrorism and development of risks management mechanisms.

They also considered the implementation of the international operation “Barrier” and the issues related to the establishment of the information exchange system among the financial intelligence bodies and monitoring of the cryptocurrency-related criminal behavior as a new threat for the Member Nations.

The participants were briefed on the implementation of the Intergovernmental Program of Joint Efforts to Combat Crime for 2019–2023 and the prospects of implementation of the draft CIS Agreement on Countering Laundering of Criminal Assets, Financing Terrorism and Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction, which is expected to be proposed for the consideration by the highest bodies of the Commonwealth this October.

The meeting also decided to draft a multilateral intergovernmental agreement to define the further status of the International Center for Risks Assessment.
