Parliamentarians and Experts Discussed Program of International Conference on Intercultural and Interreligious Dialogue

Today, the seventh joint coordination meeting on the preparation for the International Conference on Intercultural and Interreligious Dialogue  to be held in 2022 in St. Petersburg was held via videoconferencing.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Konstantin Kosachev, Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Martin Chungong, representatives of the IPU and the UN Secretary General, the UN Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, the Alliance of Civilizations and the UNESCO.

According to the press service of the Federation Council, the meeting was focused on the conference program, drafting invitations to heads of state, governments and parliaments, religious leaders, representatives of civil society and youth, as well as on the organizational issues related to ensuring the work of the conference.

The initiative to hold the Conference was taken by Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Valentina Matvienko during the 137th Assembly of the IPU, which was held in 2017 in the Tavricheskiy Palace. The Conference is organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union in cooperation with the United Nations and will be hosted by the Russian Federation. The Forum will take place on 16-18 May 2022 in St. Petersburg.
