Parliamentary Assembly of Union of Belarus and Russia To Be Engaged in Model Law-Making

Today, the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus hosted a meeting of the 61st session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia. It was attended by the heads of the lower chambers of parliaments of the two countries – Vladimir Andreichenko and Vyacheslav Volodin.

The MPs unanimously re-elected Speaker of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly and First Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Ivan Melnikov as the Deputy Chairman.

The meeting participants also approved the updated composition of the Assembly’s commissions and elected their chairs.

The MPs of Belarus and Russia discussed issues related to the implementation of the Decree No. 6 of the Supreme State Council of the Union State of 4 November 2021 on the Main Areas of Implementing the Provisions of the Treaty on the Establishment of the Union State for 2021–2023, as well as related Union programs.

Promoting the unification of the legislation of the Member Nations of the Union State on the implementation of the Decree was declared a key priority. It was decided that the Parliamentary Assembly will adopt model laws.

The Commissions of the Parliamentary Assembly have been instructed to outline work plans within the framework of their jurisdiction.

The IPA CIS Council Secretariat was represented at the meeting by Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Viktor Kogut.
