Valentina Matvienko Addressed Participants of Session of WHO Regional Committee for Europe

Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko sent a video message to the participants of the 71st session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe. The message was delivered during the discussion of the topic “Report of the Pan-European Commission on Health and Sustainable Development: presentation of recommendations and conclusions”.

In the video message, Valentina Matvienko stressed that the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic revealed the need to unite the efforts of the world community. She also noted the common efforts of the IPA CIS and the WHO Regional Office for Europe in this field.

In addition, Valentina Matvienko recalled that in November 2020, the IPA CIS Council and the WHO Regional Office for Europe adopted the Joint Statement on the Role of Parliaments in Countering COVID-19.

According to the Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, the forthcoming plenary session of the IPA CIS in November would consider the draft Joint Statement of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, the Vienna Regional Office of the International Organization for Migration and the WHO Regional Office for Europe on Measures of Legislative Support of Labour Migration During the Pandemic.

Valentina Matvienko commended the commitments of partners from the World Health Organization to conduct dynamic, well-coordinated work and expressed special gratitude to WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge for participating in the implementation of the joint initiatives.

The Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council also stressed that the IPA CIS attaches particular importance to the launch of a special group designed to consider the entire range of issues to improve the activities of the WHO emergency sector.
