 International Experts Outlined Importance of Support for Refugees From Third Countries in Syria and Iraq

On 29 September 2021, on the margins of the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly, the launch of the Global Framework for UN Support on Syria/Iraq Third Country National Returnees took place via videoconferencing.

The event was attended by representatives of the United Nations member states, heads of counter-terrorism agencies, MPs, parliamentary assemblies, the United Nations agencies and other international and regional organizations.

The meeting was opened by UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Under-Secretary-General of the UNCTO Vladimir Voronkov and Executive Director of the UNICEF Henrietta Fore delivered welcoming remarks.

Head of the Department for International Relations, Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Political Issues and International Cooperation Maksimillian Selyutin took part in the event as an observer.

During the discussion, the participants got acquainted with reports on human rights, problems of protecting children on the territories of Syria and Iraq, which are currently under the control of the government armed forces and armed groups of terrorists. The event participants were also informed about the current stage of the implementation of the Global Framework Program in Iraq and Central Asia.

Developed in 2020, the Global Framework is currently being implemented in Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
