Information security in fuel and energy industry discussed in Moscow

A round table on “Perspectives of enhancing information security in fuel and energy industry and legislative aspects of ensuring security of information systems of fuel and energy industry facilities”, led by Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Energy Pavel Zavalny, took place in the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

During the discussion Stanislav Korostelev, Head of IPA CIS Support Unit of Model Law-Making in the Field of Security and International Legal Cooperation presented the report on “Model law-making of the IPA CIS as a tool to promote information security of fuel and energy industry and information systems of its facilities”.

The IPA CIS is making a lot of efforts to align the CIS laws on information security. A new CIS Strategy for Information Security aimed at enhancing international cooperation in the sphere of information security as well as model laws On crucial information and communication infrastructure facilities and On information, informatization and promotion of information security were adopted in accordance with 2014-2018 Intergovernmental Program of Joint Measures to Combat Crime of 25 October 2013.

The topic of the round table is essential for elaboration of the information security policy for fuel and energy industry facilities. With the extended use of information systems in control loops of crucial infrastructure facilities, there is an emerging need to systematize and harmonize legal regimes of such facilities, in connection with ensuring national security in general.
