Meeting of the CIS Advisory Board on Cooperation in the Field of Public Health took place in Saransk

On 4 September 2018, Saransk (Russian Federation) hosted the meeting of the CIS Advisory Board on Cooperation in the Field of Public Health presided by Minister of Public Health of the Russian Federation Veronika Skvortsova. The meeting brought together representatives of the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan. Head of the Republic of Mordovia Vladimir Volkov also participated in the work of the Advisory Board.

On behalf of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly the meeting was attended by Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on the Social Policy and Human Rights, Secretary-in-Charge of the IPA CIS Board of Experts on Public Health Evgenia Vladimirova. She reported on the model law-making activity in the field of public health.

The members of the Advisory Board discussed the draft action plans on implementing the CIS Strategy for People's Health, on prevention of negative impact of tobacco on public health, on countering the spread of tuberculosis for 2018-2022, the Draft CIS Provisions on the Basic Public Health Care Providers, considered the progress of implementation of the CIS supreme bodies' decisions concerning the drafting of the Plan on Implementation of the CIS Concept of Cooperation in Combating Oncological Diseases and the CIS Cooperation Program for Prevention and Treatment of Diabetes in 2016-2020, as well as the initiatives of the working group on the issues of medical and sanitary-epidemiological support of civil aviation flights of the CIS Member Nations.

The meeting discussed the issues of a base CIS institution in the field of psychiatry and addictology and antimicrobial resistance, holding intergovernmental command-staff and special tactical exercises in disaster medicine, cooperation with public medical organizations and associations, countering the spread of HIV across the CIS, and other topics.

The CIS Advisory Board on Cooperation in the Field of Public Health is one of the oldest bodies of sectoral cooperation in the CIS. It was established in June 1992 and encompasses public health ministers and chief state sanitary doctors of the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan and Ukraine. The Azerbaijan Republic actively participates in its activities.

Draft instruments are prepared by five permanent bodies : the Intergovernmental Commission for Standartization, Registration and Quality Control of Medicines, Medical Devices and Medical Equipment; the Intergovernmental Commission for Sanitary and Epidemiological Regulation; the Coordination Board on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria; the Coordination Board on Sanitary Protection of the Territories of the CIS Member Nations from Import and Spread of Especially Dangerous Infectious Diseases; the Coordination Board on the Organization of Medical Prevention and Public Health Development.
