PA CE Summer part-session continues its work in Strasbourg

At the first PA CE meeting, the Chairperson of the Socialist Group of the Assembly, Swiss MP Liliane Maury Pasquier was elected new PA CE President.

The program of the session includes debates on reports on humanitarian situation and situation of refugees in Syria's neighboring countries, balance between the best interest of the child and the need to keep families together, monitoring early elections in Azerbaijan Republic, intentional destruction and trafficking of cultural heritage, and others. The parliamentarians will be addressed by Prime Ministers of Croatia and Slovakia, Foreign Ministers of Croatia and Luxembourg.

IPA CIS Council Secretary General Yury Osipov attended the Session. On the margins of the meetings, he met with PA CE Secretary General, as well as with President and Director of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission).

At the meeting with PA CE Secretary General Wojciech Sawicki was discussed the implementation of joint projects, especially the hosting of an international conference on combating terrorism next spring, co-organized by PA OSCE, CSTO, PAM, and IPU. The parties reaffirmed their commitment to continue cooperation.

Yury Osipov met with President of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio and the Director, Secretary of the Venice Commission Thomas Markert. They discussed interaction process between two organizations, the electoral issues, participation of Venice Commission experts in the analysis of IPA CIS Model Law-making, and organization of joint activities.
