The plenary meeting on road safety is being held in the Tavricheskiy Palace

The plenary session was opened by the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Deputy Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Congress, Yuriy Vorobyov. He read out the greeting of Prime Minister Dmitriy Medvedev to the participants and guests of the Sixth International Congress "Road Safety for the Safety of Life".

The greeting says, in particular: "Your authoritative forum is a significant event in the life of our country. Representatives of the authorities, international transport and public organizations, mass media, as well as doctors, teachers, scientists and experts from many countries, especially the CIS, traditionally participate in its work".

Moreover, the potential of the format of communication at the Congress was noted in the greeting.

According to Yuriy Vorobyov, this year's conference brought two thousand participants together - heads of public authorities, employees of transportation companies, the leading public figures of the Russian Federation from 25 countries, including nine member-states of the CIS. Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council also noted that the recommendations of previous forums are successfully implemented in the Commonwealth countries.

"Improving road safety is connected with the activity of public organizations. Today, we often see positive examples of self-organization of the people in this sphere. The public associations propose interesting initiatives. Citizens are more likely to inform the police about the traffic violations, drunk drivers, illegal parking, and bad condition of roads, "- continued Yuriy Vorobyov.

Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, General of Police Vladimir Kolokoltsev emphasized that civil society should be an effective assistant for state and municipal authorities on the issue of road safety. "The main element of road safety system is the people - a driver, a passenger, a pedestrian. So, it is road users who are primarily interested in the fact that their environment would be safe and comfortable, "- noted the Minister.

According to the Governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko, road safety is one of the most pressing and urgent problems. "The major role in ensuring road safety belongs to public organizations. In this regard, it is important to develop a dialogue between the authorities and society. "

Deputy Prime Minister of the Kyrghyz Republic Zhenish Razakov and First Deputy Minister of Education and Science Natalya Tretyak, who spoke at the meeting, also focused on coordination of efforts of the state and society in ensuring road safety.
