Turkmenistan assumed chairmanship of the CIS

The meeting of the Council of the CIS Heads of State on 28 September 2018 decided that in 2019 the Turkmenistan would preside, through its representative, at the Council of the CIS Heads of State, the Council of the CIS Heads of Government, the Council of the CIS Foreign Ministers, the CIS Economic Council, the Council of the Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the CIS Member Nations at the Statutory and Other Bodies of the Commonwealth and the Economic Policies Commission at the CIS Economic Council.

The Republic of Tajikistan and Republic of Uzbekistan will co-chair the CIS in 2019.

Turkmenistan's Presidency Concept is aimed at supporting stability and security, building trust among states, strengthening political and diplomatic interaction, enhancing the CIS cooperation with international organizations, including the UN and the OSCE, and creating conditions for improving trade and economic cooperation, and for integrating into world economic relations. The key areas of partnership across the CIS are energy, transport and communications. Promoting cultural, humanitarian, scientific, educational, sports contacts across the CIS countries are also in scope.
