37 IPA CIS Observers Accredited to Monitor Constitutional Referendum in Belarus

On 26 February 2022, the IPA CIS observers at the republican referendum on amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus held a meeting in Minsk. The Observer Team members got acquainted with the work program for the coming days and also defined objectives and goals.

Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy opened the meeting and recalled that the IPA CIS Observer Team worked in Belarus at the invitation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus. First Deputy Speaker of the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Mahmadali Vatanzoda presented the information on the Observer Team composition, which included representatives of the CIS parliaments, staff members of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat and experts form the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD).

During the meeting, the participants also discussed the results of the work of the IPA CIS IIMDD expert group on the analysis of preparations for the referendum. Based on the results of the long-term monitoring, the expert group concluded that the preparation of the republican constitutional referendum was carried out in accordance with the national legislation and international obligations of the Republic of Belarus.
