Belarus Elects Head of State: IPA CIS Observer Team Monitors Opening of Stations

IPA CIS Observer Team monitored the opening of a number of the voting stations, sealing of the ballot boxes and the beginning of the voting. IPA CIS Observer Team Coordinator, Chairman of the Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Federal Structure, Regional Policy, Local Government and Northern Affairs Oleg Melnichenko and IPA CIS Council Secretary General Dmitriy Kobitskiy observed the beginning of work of the voting station No. 32 in the capital of Belarus.

The voting stations opened at 8:00 and will close at 20:00.

During the day, the representatives of eight parliaments – Azerbaijani, Armenian, Belarusian, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Moldovan, Russian, Tajik – and the IPA CIS Council Secretariat staff members, including the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD), monitor the elections in Minsk and other settlements, as well as at the foreign voting stations in Baku, Yerevan, Chisinau, Moscow and St. Petersburg.

The main aim of the monitoring is to collect the maximum amount of information in order to prepare a balanced and objective conclusion based on the observation results.
