CIS Observer Mission Drew Outcomes of Presidential Elections in Republic of Moldova

During the press-conference, the representatives of the CIS Observer Mission recognized the elections of the President of the Republic of Moldova held on 1 November 2020 as free and open. IPA CIS Observer Team Coordinator, Deputy Speaker of the Milli Mejlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Adil Aliyev and IPA CIS Council Secretary General Dmitriy Kobitskiy attended the event.

“The Mission concluded that the elections of the President of the Republic of Moldova on 1 November 2020 were held in accordance with the current national legislation, were free, open and competitive”, said Head of the CIS Observer Mission, First Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Viktor Guminskiy.

He noted that the international observers did not notice any serious violations; the ones noticed did not significantly affect the results of the voting.

“The voting was held in a calm atmosphere. In a number of settlements there were attempts to prevent the access to the polling stations for Transnistrian voters. Those facts are being checked and will get an appropriate legal assessment. However, we do not think they could influence the results of the elections”, quotes Viktor Guminskiy the press office of the CIS Executive Committee.

The presidential elections in the Republic of Moldova were carried out by 87 CIS observers, including those from the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly. In total, the Mission representatives attended 38 polling stations in different regions of the Republic of Moldova, as well as the foreign polling stations in Baku (Azerbaijan Republic), Minsk (Republic of Belarus), Moscow and St. Petersburg (Russian Federation).
