IPA CIS International Observers Discussed Specifics of Parliamentary Elections Monitoring in Republic of Kazakhstan

The IPA CIS International Observers at the elections to the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan on 10 January 2021 began short-term monitoring. On 9 January 2021, the observers outlined goals and objectives of monitoring and were briefed on the work program for the coming days.

IPA CIS Observer Team Coordinator, Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Agriculture and Food Policy and Environmental Management Alexei Mayorov and Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy opened the meeting. They described the composition of the group and noted the basic principles and norms to be followed by the observers.

All the IPA CIS member parliaments responded to the invitation to take part in the elections monitoring in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Observer Team included MPs and senators from the Azerbaijan Republic, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Today, the IPA CIS observers has also scheduled a series of meetings with representatives of political parties participating in the elections, the leadership of both chambers of the Kazakhstan parliament and the Central Election Commission of the republic
