IPA CIS Observers Started Monitoring of Elections to State Duma

Over the next three days, MPs from the CIS countries will hold meetings with representatives of parties, the Central Election Commission, the lower and upper chambers of the Federal Assembly, and visit polling stations. Monitoring is carried out in the Russian Federation and abroad.

The IPA CIS international observers at the elections to the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation have started short-term monitoring. During the orientation meeting in Moscow, the Observer Team members got acquainted with the work program for the coming days.

IPA CIS Council Secretary General Dmitriy Kobitskiy welcomed the observers and introduced IPA CIS Observer Team Coordinator, Deputy Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askar Shakirov.

Askar Shakirov spoke about the composition of the Team, which included representatives of the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as experts from the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD), including its offices’ staff members.

He also noted the peculiarities of the current electoral campaign, including the e-voting, three-day format, mobile voter system.

The monitoring of the elections is carried out according to the IPA CIS IIMDD methodology, including the principles of political neutrality, impartiality and non-interference in the internal affairs of the state.

IPA CIS IIMDD Director Ivan Mushket told the members of the Observer Team about the work program for the coming days. The observers were presented with analytical and reference materials prepared by the IPA CIS IIMDD experts based on the results of long-term monitoring.

The observers will meet with representatives of political parties running in the elections, MPs and senators, the leadership of the Central Election Commission, the General Prosecutor’s Office and the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation. Within three days, observers will visit polling stations in Moscow, in other regions of Russia and abroad.
